With its contribution to Chem-X, Henkel will build on its past and ongoing contributions to Catena-X and CX-Next, aiming to expand this work in two directions: upstream chemical supply chains with Chem-X consortium partners and downstream industries beyond automotive. Henkel’s contribution spans all work packages; from Standardization of key sustainability and safety metrics to a functional solution (pilots) for data exchange via DMP/DPP for chemical substances. A compelling outcome is to ensure that this DPP model is interoperable. This final work item also includes the transition from concepts to implementation and the development of an MVP to test the practicality of the previous work packages.

As a market leader in adhesives, sealants, coatings and consumer products, we understand the need to address environmental and safety issues. However, there is currently a lack of easily accessible and comprehensive sustainability and safety data particularly within chemical value chains, due to their inherent complexity. Overcoming these challenges with the Chem-X partners will help to improve transparency and data quality in sustainability, circularity, and safety, enabling data informed decisions across the value chain. Our motivation is reflected in our commitment: “We aim to simplify data sharing across the value chain and prepare Henkel for the future with Digital Product Passports”.

With its brands, innovations and technologies, Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany, holds leading market position worldwide in the industrial and consumer businesses. The business unit Adhesive Technologies is the global market leader for adhesives, sealants and functional coatings, while the Consumer Brands business holds leading positions especially in laundry & home care. Sustainability has a long tradition at Henkel, and the company has a clear sustainability strategy with specific targets.
